Global natural gas consumption increased 7.4 percent last year, to 306 billion cubic feet of gas per day, the strongest growth since 1984, says BP's new 2011 Statistical Review of World Energy.

Natural gas liquids make the money for many shale gas producers, but all those liquids coming into the market from all that drilling could make it harder in coming years to command top dollar for oversupplied ethane, said speakers at the Canadian Energy Research Institute's annual petrochemicals conference June 5-7 near Calgary.
