MEDIA ADVISORY: News conference to discuss close of Alaska gas pipeline open seasons
ANCHORAGE, AK – Federal Coordinator Larry Persily will hold a press conference at 2 p.m. (ADT) Tuesday, July 20, at the Office of the Federal Coordinator’s Anchorage conference room to discuss the upcoming July 30 close of the first open season for an Alaska North Slope gas pipeline project.
"I want Alaskans and the nation to understand what to expect the mornings after the open seasons close for the Alaska Pipeline Project (July 30) and the Denali project (Oct. 4)," Persily said. "The open season process isn’t like an oil and gas lease sale where bid information becomes immediately available. This is more like the process of buying a home. One party makes an offer, there are counter offers, conditions and negotiations before the parties agree on the final price and terms and schedule — and then, hopefully, sign a binding contract."
"Until those contracts are signed, the shippers’ bids and conditions of those bids are between private parties and are not public record," Persily said.
Persily also will discuss natural gas market conditions.
